The third and fourth grade gifted students have been studying about glass. Students learned about firing, fusing, and blowing class. Students are currently fusing pieces in class. We were fortunate enough to be able to visit the Pittsburgh Glass Company so that students could experience blowing glass! Seeing ovens at 2,100° was quite different than watching a video or reading about the ovens. Mrs. Murtha and Mrs. Brown were able to take students and parents to this event. Each person was able to take a pumpkin home after they had gone through the proper cooling process! We toured and learned about all different areas of glass work. It was an exciting day! If you are looking for some fun in the city this would be a great place to visit! Click the log above to visit their website!
